Màgghju, i.e. may, is a recurring word in the language and tradition of Macerata-Fermo and goes far beyond the State the fifth month of the year: May was called the Ferguson of Laurel which was hung above the door of the cellars to signal the opening of the new cask; may was called the Hawthorn, dear lovers because, with its delicate flowers and its treacherous spines, is a metaphor for the joys and torments of love.
This is because may was crucial to the life of the past, mainly agricultural and punctuated by liturgical calendar and the seasons.
January is the advent of spring, the awakening of nature, the cycle of life that takes over and that's why since very ancient times has been celebrated with particular fervour, and one of the oldest ways to celebrate it was in song.
The Cantamaggio, together with the Pasquella, Scacciamarzo, and la Passió ' is one of the best known traditional songs begging rituals of our brand Central.
These propitiatory songs are performed by popular musicians and singers since time immemorial, who brought home for home-and still carry-wellness for the community and individual greetings for the season that begins, following a precise ceremonial.
Players arrive at home and ask with ceremonial courtesy permission to play. The family reunited listen chanting with respectful attention and then comes the moment of gifts to the team of musicians.
Frequently it ends with two steps of scamper, maybe singing ditties improvised to imprint on the House where the musicians are guests.
At the end of it all, the host family offers gifts in kind to the team (today often replaced by small sums of money), as a reward for bringing good luck for the coming season.
The tradition of Cantamaggio (and songs rituals of begging in General) keeps alive the culture of hospitality.
This hospitality is an ancestral memory when, in ancient times, even before the Saints and even before Christ, were the gods to knock on doors of homes disguised as men: give them good treatment could bring down the House on behalf of heaven, something indispensable in the world of harsh and fatiguing than once.
At the same time it was a way of passing on a lesson of humanity and fraternity, without which-old knew the world wouldn't be far worse.
So, in the spirit of our good and ancient tradition, Sunday May 8, 2016 a large group of groups coming from all brands will Petriolo (Macerata), birthplace of John Ginobili, the noble father of ethnomusicology.
The day will begin at 9.00 a.m. with the rally in the Plaza of the teams throughout the morning will bring good luck with their songs and their joy in every house to the districts and the streets of the town.
Then, after lunch, everyone is welcome in the historic centre of Petriolo, where traditional players will merennàta together, which will flood with ditties and barrel organs the ancient Piazzetta San Marco and all the ways of the Castle.
From 15.00 until evening, in fact, all the participating groups will play and sing for people who will speak, and it all comes in a spontaneous and community party to once, to the sound of traditional verses and scamper and accompanied by fava, pecorino cheese, pork and wine.
