The drums of Gorèe live in Chieti in occasion of the great feast of peoples 2015 now in its 7th Edition.
"The drums of Gorée was born in Senegal, on the island of Gorée, the island which historically was for three centuries the collection and sorting of West Africa of blacks captured and enslaved waiting to leave for the new world.
At Gorée slaves developed a new rhythmic language, accompanied by "assico", rudimentary tools invented by them to communicate in a common language to different ethnic groups and without being understood by their captors.
"The drums of Gorée", wants to continue to transmit those messages of hope, that desire for freedom and the will to live, with the intent to continue to give life and to convey the deepest cultural roots of Senegal and West Africa, in particular the Mandinga musical traditions and Wolof.
The group "the drums of Gorée" is composed by master percussionists, singers, choreographers and dancers from the Senegalese National Ballet, with the aid of colourful costumes convey to us with energy and vivacity the history and stories of Africa with ancient artistic techniques learned from childhood.
"The drums of Gorée" is a formation featuring mainly of percussion instruments (djiembé, doundoun, sabar, tama, bugarabu kenkeni, sangban, balafon, soruba,, assico) and kora (ancient instrument to 22 strings) specializes exclusively in Italy, the use of "assico", the first percussion instruments manufactured and used by African slaves in Gorée.
Traditional music proposed by the group are primarily a rhythmic support to the dance, celebrating and ritualizza the various social and cultural events and religious situations of life in Africa, sending a message of positivity and fostering communication and cultural exchange between peoples.
