These fireworks displays are performed in San Severo on the occasion of the patronal celebrations in honor of Maria Santissima del Soccorso, but also during other religious events.

The batteries they are made up of numerous shots connected to each other by a fuse which, following a very specific order, explode in succession. The fire of the batteries is accompanied by the characteristic rush of the fujenti, faithful who challenge the fire, giving life to an exceptional and choreographic apotropaic ritual.

The tradition of fires it dates back to the Baroque era and its use is documented in southern Italy starting from the Spanish domination. In ancient times, in fact, there was a widespread belief that the loud noise of explosions kept evil spirits and demonic presences away from sacred processions.
