Il Milan Flamenco Festival, in program from 1 to 12 July, was born from the need to offer the city of Milano a cultural event to bring the public even closer to the culture of flamenco and Milan to the largest European and world capitals. Since 2008, the year of the first edition in the historic OUT OFF theatre, the festival has grown in importance and since 2010 it has taken place at the Piccolo Teatro Studio Expo, a world-famous setting for an art which since November 2010 has been declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Milano Flamenco Festival takes on fundamental importance this year, being one of the activities planned within the semester EXPO of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan. As always, the event can count on the production, organization and careful artistic direction of Maria Rosaria Mottola for POINTFLAMENCO, the only Italian organization capable of bringing together the biggest names in world flamenco in a single event. This year the festival flies higher than ever with artists of the caliber of Guadalupe Torres, Ana Morales and the great Rafaela Carrasco leading the prestigious Ballet Nacional de Andalucía, which is celebrating twenty years of activity.
The 2015 edition will focus on the Expo theme and will have as its slogan:
FLAMENCO AS MATTER: FOOD FOR LIFE, CREATIVE ENERGY
Culture is an essential food for the health of the soul, for balance and harmony between human beings, for the enjoyment of creative beauty and for reflection. Flamenco, one of the richest cultures on the planet, brings together in its essence the fundamental elements of nourishment - earth, water, fire, air - and uses specific instruments in its expressive forms.
Flamenco is profoundly linked to the earth, which is matter and the universal mother, to the bowels, or rather the emotions and passions, to the throat, which swallows and returns the immense sonority of the music of life, to the hands that speak, touch, strike, caress, move the air, adorning and creating.
An art born to exorcise nature, destiny, deprivation, hunger and thirst for emotions, thus transforming desires into bread to live and survive and telling, through song, music and dance, the testimony of Mother Earth.
